ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Let’s go defense!

When Uncle Sam has a job to do, he often calls on Bethesda, Md.-based Lockheed Martin Corporation.  Established in the 1995 merger of Lockheed Corp. and Martin Marietta Corp., it is the nation’s largest defense contractor.  The firm operates in four principal markets: aeronautics (aircraft and related technologies), electronic systems (missiles and missile-defense products, surveillance equipment, etc.), information systems and global services (military-focused IT) and space systems (satellites, space transportation, missile defense).  These days, Lockheed is especially focused on the tech sector—the firm currently ranks as the U.S. government’s largest provider of IT services, IT training and systems integration (coordinating old and new tech systems).  The firm employs approximately 140,000 people in numerous locations worldwide.
