ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

THE SCOOP

Locke Lord LLP is the result of an October 2007 merger between Texas-based Locke Liddell & Sapp and Chicago’s Lord Bissell & Brook. While it took some time for the merger dust to settle, the deal cemented Locke Lord’s reputation for aggressive reinvention, with the firm grooming new leaders and claiming new turf in recent years.

Locke Lord SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: Associates at Locke Lord rave about the friendly, collegial work environment. However, while they’re generally happy with the compensation they receive, a lack of transparency as to how bonuses are decided can be frustrating.

Associate Life

Satisfaction

“I am doing the kind of work that I want and getting a good amount of responsibility.”

“It's feast or famine as far as work load goes. You either have little to do and are worried about your billable requirements, or too much to do and are worried about when you are going to sleep.”

“I love the opportunity to continuously do work that is above my class year, and I love most of the people that I work with. My work load is a little overwhelming.”

“Locke Lord does not staff cases as heavily as other large firms and associates are given a lot of responsibility, which leads to a very productive learning experience. However, Locke Lord does not invest adequately in its computer/IT systems and has a shortage of support staff in this office.... As a result, it is harder to complete tasks efficiently and I am required to work longer hours.”
