The Boston-based company has grown and reorganized since its inception in 1912 to become the Liberty Mutual Holding Company Inc., a holding company for three principal entities: Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Company and Employers Insurance Company of Wausau. The group is operated as a mutual holding structure owned by its policyholders. The company in its entirety provides a wide range of insurance products and services, including private passenger automobile, homeowners, workers’ compensation, commercial multiple peril, commercial automobile, general liability, global specialty, group disability, assumed reinsurance, fire and surety. Liberty has four business units: personal markets, commercial markets, agency markets and Liberty International. No single business unit contributes more than 30 percent of net written premium. Its personal markets affinity program has more than 9,800 sponsored affinity group relationships with employers, credit unions, professional and alumni associations.
