Founded in 1962, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods is a New York-headquartered investment bank that specializes in serving financial services companies. The firm’s clients include banking and insurance companies, broker-dealers, mortgage banks, asset management companies, REITs, specialty finance firms, and securities exchanges. Its services include mergers and acquisitions advisory, general financial advisory, equity capital markets, fixed income markets, mutual thrift and insurance company conversions, and structured finance. KBW managed more IPOs and follow-on equity offerings in the financial institution sector from 2004 to 2010 than any other investment bank, and also advised on more financial institution-related M&A deals from 2004 to 2009 than any other firm. As for the firm’s research department, its analysts cover more than 200 U.S. banks and nearly 680 foreign-based financial services companies. The firm employs approximately 450 people in 11 offices around the world. In addition to its headquarters in New York, the firm has outposts in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hartford, Houston, Richmond, San Francisco, London, Honk Kong, and Tokyo. The firm is led by Thomas B. Michaud, its president and CEO.
