ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

The hurricane

Founded in 1937, Jones Walker is one of the Gulf South Region's largest law firms and currently includes the largest group of attorneys practicing in Louisiana. Of course, as the biggest firm in Louisiana, the firm is firmly entrenched in the hurricane recovery efforts in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Bill Hines, the Managing Partner of Jones Walker, accepted the request from New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin to serve with Dan Packer, CEO of Entergy New Orleans, as co-chair of the Economic Development Committee of the Blue Ribbon Commission to Rebuild New Orleans. Hines has testified before the U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee in Washington D.C. concerning federal response to Hurricane Katrina and the ongoing economic and other recovery efforts.

The name pays for itself

The best thing about working at Jones, Walker? "The great people" is a common refrain. Then there's "being able to work at the most prestigious firm in New Orleans," says one recent hire, while another says that "mentioning that you work for Jones Walker is a perk in and of itself." Even better, this is a top firm that looks after its people. "The firm cares about its attorneys and staff. We did not have any layoffs after Katrina even though work was slow and most of us were gone for nearly a month," says a firm veteran.

Hiring at Jones, Walker is competitive. "The firm looks for the best and brightest. Grades and ranking play a major role in the hiring criteria," says one associate.
