International Paper is the world’s largest forest products firm, employing about 51,500 people worldwide.  The company is active in every sector of the pulp and paper market except for newsprint, and also manufactures select wood products.  The company has now concentrated on its core packaging and uncoated papers businesses.  International Paper markets its products under a variety of brand names, including Hammermill, Springhill, Great White, Strathmore, Champion, Beckett and Rey.  The company also supplies raw wood pulp to manufacturers of other paper-based products such as diapers, tissues and napkins.  IP’s packaging division is also a paper purveyor, but of a more specialized variety.  The group produces milk and juice cartons, corrugated cardboard boxes, paper cups, plates, containers and trays, kraft paper (the heavyweight brown paper used to make grocery bags) and packaging for a number of different consumer products including cigarettes, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and computer software.  IP’s paper distribution subsidiary, xpedx, works closely with both the paper and packaging units.
