The Humana touchHumana’s health care plans cover almost 9 million people, who are variously enrolled in the company’s health maintenance organization (HMO), use its consumer-driven health care accounts, or are covered under its disability or dental insurance plans. Humana contracts with the federal government to cover people with Medicare and Medicaid, as well as administer TRICARE, the military health insurance program. As an HMO, Humana receives monthly fees, usually through its members’ employers, and co-payments when members seek medical services. In the Fortune 500 list, Humana was ranked No. 85 in 2009.
