ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Not just Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam

Hormel is the name behind a number of meat products for the consumer and foodservice markets, including Dinty Moore stews, DiLusso deli meats, Farmer John meat products, Jennie-O Turkey, Lloyd’s Barbeque and that king of lunchmeats, Spam.  In addition to all this investment in food from livestock, the company has interests in food for livestock with its Agri-Nutrition animal feed line.  Hormel also produces the GMBond sand binder for metal casting and Hormel HealthLabs’ food products for patients with special dietary needs.

Hormel beefs up the 2009 Fortune 500 at No. 373, up from its ranking in 2008 when it was No. 390 on the list.  The firm has also won a number of other awards for its products as well as its good deeds.  In 2009, Corporate Responsibility Officer magazine named Hormel Foods to its 100 Best Corporate Citizens in the U.S. List, and The American Red Cross honored Hormel Foods and its employees with the Circle of Humanitarians award for their contributions—totaling almost $300,000—for victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  In addition, in April 2009, the American Meat Institute awarded 26 of Hormel Foods’ locations with Environmental Recognition awards in acknowledgment of the company’s dedication—as a member of the meat and poultry industry—to the development and implementation of environmental management systems.

SURVEY SAYS

Bid across anytime

The company provides a good working atmosphere particularly with work hours and dress code.  One insider says, “I do enjoy my position here.  I went to college for my position and so far it has been worth it to me.  I enjoy working with everyone here at the company.  My hours aren’t so bad at all.  I wear casual dress clothes to work.  Every day is a new challenge, but it is always an interesting day.  The people I work with have been with the company for a long time and they have all started at where I am today and have moved up, so I do have a lot to look forward to.”
