ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Land of the rising Honda

Tokyo-based Honda is the second-largest automaker in Japan, after Toyota, and the world’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer.  Among its more popular autos are the Accord, CR-V, Civic, Element and Ridgeline.  The firm is also a leader in hybrid technology—the Accord and Civic are both available as gas-electric hybrids.  The company has hopped aboard Asia’s massive demand for motorcycles and seen its two-wheeled products, which range from scooters to high-horsepower superbikes, reap huge revenue.  In the first quarter of 2009, the company had revenue of around ¥10.011 billion, with net income of ¥137 billion, a decline from 2008 because of decreased car sales.  Honda also makes all-terrain vehicles, personal watercraft, snowblowers, lawn mowers, outboard motors, aircraft—and a robot called ASIMO.

Mixed emotions

Insiders have contrasting views regarding the company.  Interview-wise, sources say there are two or three rounds of interviews.  One says that the questions are “S-T-A-R related,” which means “specific situation or task, what action was taken and what…the results [were].”  Others say questions were “philosophical,” technical and personal.  Another states that all questions asked were on past work experience.
