ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
A noted firmIn 2006, New England law firm Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP celebrated 100 years of practicing law. Today's Hinckley results from the combination of two Rhode Island firms, Hinckley & Allen (founded in 1906) and Tobin & Silverstein (founded in 1917), the successful Massachusetts firm Snyder, Tepper & Comen (founded in 1947), and a group of lawyers from Boston's Fine & Ambrogne. Centered in Boston, with regional offices in Concord, New Hampshire and Providence, Rhode Island, the full-service firm's clients include many of New England's publicly-held corporations and emerging businesses, financial and educational institutions, and several of the nation's largest real estate developers and construction companies. Firm honors for 2006 include being voted one of Rhode Island's "Best Places to Work" by the Best Companies Group. In the small to mid-size firm category, the firm ranked No. 8. Hinckley Allen is also affiliated with TerraLex, a global network of 150 independent law firms and 12,000 attorneys in nearly 100 countries, and The Toledo Group, a national network of independent law firms.

Getting Hired
Tips from the inside
The recruiting process
Hinckley, Allen & Snyder actively recruits at the surrounding Boston law schools, seeking "top performers as an undergraduate and in law school, with excellent drive and interpersonal skills." Although one first-year attorney notes that, in the recent past, the "interview process was a bit inconsistent and not as formal, but that has changed now," many new and senior-level associates at the firm consider the current hiring process to be "extremely competitive." While the firm has comparatively low percentages of minority attorneys, it "actively promote[s] diversity both through our recruiting activities and our emphasis on acceptance of diversity in the workplace." As one insider reports, "The firm has made tremendous strides in trying to diversify the workplace."
