The Hershey Company, among North America’s largest confectioners, boasts a name that’s become practically synonymous with chocolate—and for good reason. The enterprise provides cacao-derived goodness under more than 60 brand names in about 50 countries worldwide, in forms ranging from bars and Kisses to Kit Kats, York Peppermint Patties and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Also on offer are fine confections from acquisitions Scharffen Berger, Dagoba and Joseph Schmidt, fit to quell even the most refined chocolate craving. But the company’s no sweets snob—it also churns out treats such as Twizzlers and Jolly Ranchers, chocolate for dessert and baking, and Bubble Yum gum and Ice Breakers breath-freshening gum and mints. Selling all these sweet treats has earned the firm a sweet spot, too: No. 471 on 2008’s Fortune 500.

Sweet surrender

Hershey’s employees really do get free chocolate! But the company also offers more standard benefits, like health insurance, business casual dress and company stock. Luckily, Hershey also provides dental coverage to its employees, who say that they are treated as “sweetly as the chocolate.” Longtime employees praise the “generous” benefit and retirement packages as well as the “social and high-spirited” atmosphere. It’s good that they get along, particularly at the corporate office, because “Hershey (PA) is a very small town, and there is not much to do.”

Current opportunities at Hershey are listed in the “Job Search” section of the careers site. Job categories run the gamut from Customer Service to Research and Development. Applicants must create a profile in order to submit their resumes for consideration.

The company also lists employment opportunities at Chocolate World, a component of Hershey Park where visitors go on tours that demonstrate the chocolate-making process from cacao to candy bar. Applicants can search and apply for Chocolate World positions—on the Great American Chocolate Tour, Really Big 3D Show or as Hershey product characters, among others.
