ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Independent no more
When Electronic Data Systems (EDS) shareholders accepted a bid of $13.8 billion from Hewlett Packard (HP) in August 2008, the company drew a close to its more than 40 years of operation as an independent entity in the IT services field.  Upon entering the HP fold, the two firms announced more than 24,000 layoffs over the following three years to speed their integration and, in December 2008, announced the latest phase of that process: as of January 2009, EDS will be a business unit within HP’s technology solutions group.  EDS CEO Ron Rittenmeyer retired on December 31, 2008 and September 2009, the company was renamed HP Enterprise Services.

HP Enterprise Services SURVEY SAYS

Always look on the bright side
Reviews of HP Enterprise are mixed.  Some insiders tell us that they are pleased to find that they can maintain a “loose working schedule.”  A strategy and planning manager in Texas cheerfully reports, “I don’t work 9 to 5.  I can work from home and I have four weeks of vacation.”  Weekends spent working range from few to as many as 45 per year, but not everyone is bothered by the extra hours.  One staffer praises his “great bosses and peers” and says the only downside to the company is that the “work is pretty technical and analytical, so it is a bit boring at times.”  An analyst in Australia is perfectly content because the firm’s “positives outweigh any negatives.”

Tips from the inside

Have your ducks in a row
The best way to find an opening at HP Enterprise is on the firm’s careers website (http://www.forrester.com/careers?cm_re=Navigation_010710-_-about_forrester_subnav-_-careers), where it’s possible to search for jobs by country, title and industry.  Interested parties can apply for specific positions by uploading a resume and cover letter.  Once a resume has been added to the firm’s database, HP Enterprise recruiters may review it for other potential job matches.
