HCA Inc. (formerly known as HCA—The Healthcare Company) is the largest for-profit hospital operator in the United States.  The company owns and manages approximately 163 hospitals and 105 freestanding surgery centers in 20 U.S. states and in London, England.  Listed as one of Fortune magazine’s “Most Admired” health care companies in 2009, HCA is a 40-year-old company that is now a leading health care provider.  Its nearly 183,000 employees served an estimated 18 million patients in 2008.  The hospital posted recent revenues for the six months ending June 30, 2009 totalling $14.914 billion.  Its revenues in 2008 amounted to more than $28 billion.  Part of its strategy for success is to invest in communities.  HCA has invested $1.5 billion annually over the last five years to keep hospitals modern and equipped with state-of-the art facilities.
