ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Pour it on!The H.J. Heinz Company owns the Ore-Ida brand of frozen French fries and other potato products, Smart Ones and (under license) Boston Market and Weight Watchers frozen dinners, Bagel Bites, Wyler’s dry soup mixes and the Classico premium tomato sauce line. The Pennsylvania-bred organization’s biggest market, surprisingly, is Europe where generations of residents have considered the Heinz brand one of their own. It opened up shop in the United Kingdom in 1886, and the product lineup sold there included “tinned” beans, soups and pasta meals. European sales ($3.41 billion in fiscal 2009, a decrease of 3.4 percent from the sales of the previous year) slightly outpaced those generated in North America. Most of the rest of the company’s revenue is almost evenly shared by sales in the Asia Pacific region and those through a U.S. food service division.
