ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
From financial problems to successGrupo ACS's short name belies the fact that the civil engineering, construction and telecom firm actually comprises a long string of names. In 1983, a small group of engineers acquired Construcciones Padros, a middle-sized construction company in Catalonia, which at the time was riddled with financial woes. A decade was spent successfully restructuring the firm and at the end of the 1980s ACS (Actividades de Construcci y Servicios S.A.) acquired SEMI, another business specialising in the maintenance and installation of electric lines, which initiated Grupo ACS's diversification process.
