ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

"Industry focused" law firm

As an "industry-focused" law firm, Seattle-based Graham & Dunn knows where its strengths lie. With specialized practice areas in hospitality services, financial services, real estate, and communications, the 115-year old firm has carved out a niche in the Pacific Northwest. The firm promises "big law firm experience without the big law firm experience." and has clients locally, regionally, and nationally. In addition to its industry specializations, the firm also provides legal services in employment law, intellectual property, wealth management, tax, antitrust, and corporate litigation.

SURVEY SAYS

G&D likes to party!

Some feel that Graham & Dunn "likes to party!" Others simply note that the firm is "laid-back, friendly, and hard-working." The partners are "very approachable and generally informal." However, one associate states that "although the dress code is casual" the culture "is formal and fiscally conservative." Most associates feel that "everyone seems to get along and like each other." Associates socialize together and "find excuses to do so frequently," but make sure that the socializing doesn't become "overly burdensome." It doesn't hurt to have "a good sense of humor," either.

Tips from the inside

Comprehensive interview process

Graham & Dunn "engages in a rather comprehensive interview process." Candidates meet 10-15 attorneys in groups of two or three. Personality is key: Graham & Dunn is searching for an associate who is "personable, hardworking, intelligent, able and interested in focusing and developing his/her practice in one of four industries that the firm serves, i.e. real estate, telecommunications, franchises (ARCO, wineries, hotels), [and] banking." It's important to have the "ability to carry on a conversation" and "be interesting and smart." The firm works hard to "ensure that the candidate is a good fit in terms of personality, temperament and professional interests."
