GIA SURVEY SAYS

"Coming out of a post merger period, we can see how the mother company has been very open and flexible in absorbing best practices from the acquired company, even if that means making some changes in the way things have been running with the mother company before a merger. This is not common in most mergers and is something to be recognized. Everyone in the firm has a voice."

"Very friendly culture; no politics at all in APAC, which is really great. People help each other out a lot and share best practices. It's quite businesslike in the office—not a lot of afterhours socializing, but we have regular team get-togethers and lunches for special occasions."

Tips from the inside

[Editor's note: Prior to the absorption of Fusion Consulting into Global Intelligence Alliance, surveys were conducted with Fusion employees from GIA Asia. The results of the following surveys do not include any other firms operating under the Global Intelligence Alliance Group.]

Team potential

Sources at GIA Asia (formerly Fusion Consulting) say the "normal interview process" involves "two or three rounds of interviews with different levels of staff," including "role play and case studies" followed by "meetings with supervisors."  The consultancy also likes to match up "potential teammates in the selection process to see if there is chemistry."  In addition, the process also involves analytical tasks and role playing for project management or business development situations."  Past questions staffers remember include, "How would you advise a mobile phone manufacturer on entering the Malaysian market?" and, "Estimate how many cargo planes take off from Singapore Airport every year and give your rationale."

If you want to land a position at GIA, it could give you a leg up if you're from one of the "top MBA schools in Asia," including University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong and the National University of Singapore.
