Ohio-based FirstEnergy is a Fortune 500 company providing electricity, natural gas and services to 4.5 million customers in parts of New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. It currently ranks No. 194 in the 2009 Fortune list, with $13.6 billion in revenue and $1.3 billion in profits. Fifty-six percent of the company’s domestic power plants’ 14,200-megawatt capacity is coal-powered; the rest draw their power from nuclear plants, natural gas or oil, and other energy sources like wind. The company also manages the Beaver Valley, Davis-Besse and Perry nuclear power plants. Deregulation looms as a major concern for the future.

One source said the meeting with FirstEnergy sources was “very laid-back and casual.” The process usually involves two to three stages—a phone interview with a recruiter and personal interviews with the same recruiter and/or a hiring manager.

Job seekers can view current openings by clicking on “Search Jobs.” The site lets applicants view either a brief or detailed description of positions upon registration. The site also includes sections on the company culture, campus recruiting and testimonials from employees. In addition to regular positions, the firm also has co-op and internship programs for students in fields such as electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, business, math and computer science.
