ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Meet the FedEx family

FedEx operates a number of branded divisions offering a number of shipping services to a variety of customers. Among its product offerings are its better-known ground, express, and freight services, as well as Trade Networks, which specializes in overseas shipping, Custom Critical, for urgent same-day and next day shipments, and Smart Post, for companies that need to send lots of small packages inexpensively. FedEx also offers office services like scanning, copying, printing (and shipping, of course!) through its FedEx Kinko's stores. FedEx handles 15 million packages per day, and delivers to every household in the U.S., as well as to addresses in 220 countries. FedEx isn't just famous for transporting boxes and documents -- the company is also experienced in shipping polar bears, pandas, cougars, penguins and eagles to zoos -- along with other miscellaneous items like a sailboat, a satellite, a windmill, an 11,000-pound helicopter and a big snowball.

FedEx SURVEY SAYS

Ship shape

Sources describe the interviews at FedEx as "intensive." One says, "I had three rounds of interviews and they followed up with my references as well as outside sources. Drug testing. A lot of "scenario" questions and what I thought FedEx was about. It is a really good idea to do a lot of research on the company before the interview and talk to current employees in the position you are interviewing for in advance." His colleague adds that he had "three rounds of interviews with managers, directors and potential co-workers. Behavioral interview questions were prepared and distributed to the interviewers prior to the interview."

Tips from the inside

Resumes sent via UPS will not be considered

FedEx has an informative careers site at fedex.hodesiq.com/careers/job_search.aspx?User_ID=, with plenty of information on benefits and job opportunities. Benefits vary by company division, but generally include 401(k) and health, dental and vision insurance. The company divides its positions into 11 career tracks: accounting, information technology, customer service, marketing, sales, supply chain and logistics, human resources, engineering, operations, finance and administrative support. The FedEx web site lists all open positions, and allows applicants to search by career area, location and operating company. Job seekers may also submit resumes online.
