“Dow” that’s a big companySince 2001, Dow has been one of the three largest chemical companies in the world. Dow currently sells 3,300 products to customers in 160 countries worldwide. The firm is organized into eight major divisions—basic chemicals, basic plastics, health and agricultural sciences, hydrocarbons and energy, electronic and specialty materials, coatings and infrastructure, performance systems, and performance products—and makes products that include adhesives, sealants and resins used in packaging, herbicides and insecticides. Dow’s revenue in 2008 climbed $57.5 billion, a new company record. On April 1, 2009, Dow acquired Rohm and Haas Company, a global specialty materials company with sales of $10 billion in 2008, 98 manufacturing sites in 30 countries and about 15,000 employees worldwide.
