Animal, vegetable or mineral?

Del Monte is best known for the canned fruits and vegetables—the company produces a whole crowd of them, from asparagus to zucchini—that bear the company name. But the trademark red Del Monte shield covers much more. The company is also responsible for the College Inn line of broths (vegetable, beef and chicken), Contadina tomato products and S&W, a premium brand that mirrors Del Monte's everyday offerings. Even more important than the company's nutritional options for people, is its dominance in food and snacks for pets. While annual sales of Del Monte's fruits and vegetable products haven't shown much growth in the past few years, the company's purchase of the Milk-Bone and Meow Mix brands in 2006 shook up its product mix considerably.

Educational development is encouraged, and Del Monte does its part to support employees who wish to upgrade their professional tool set. The company offers a number of internal (e-learning) and external opportunities at workshops and conferences. In addition, the corporate learning initiative called Del Monte University presents in-classroom training and an employee education assistance plan can provide up to $5,250 annually for approved curricula at accredited institutions.
