ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Plowing a rich furrow

What does anyone need to know about Deere & Company that can’t be explained by summoning an image of a leaping yellow buck set against a green background?  Surely, everyone has seen that iconic logo on a tractor or lawnmower at some point.  However, there’s much more to the world’s largest manufacturer of agricultural and forestry equipment than mere farm and garden equipment, as a glance at the company’s four business segments will testify.  In addition to its agricultural equipment segment, the firm also has commercial and consumer equipment (lawnmowers, domestic tractors and the like); construction and forestry; and credit, which offers financial services for those seeking to purchase Deere equipment.  That’s more necessary than it might appear—a typical farm tractor comes in at around $185,000 and is customizable with the firm’s proprietary AutoTrac GPS units, lumbar-supporting seats, halogen headlights and much more.

SURVEY SAYS

Don’t ask
