ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

King cable-caster

Comcast is the leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services in the United States, aggressively marketing its “triple play” bundle of television, high-speed internet and digital voice services to customers in some 39 states and the District of Columbia over the past few years.  Comcast has about 24.1 million cable customers, 15.3 million high-speed internet customers and 4.1 million cable telephone users.  Comcast also manages several leading cable television networks and websites, including E! Entertainment Television, the Style Network, G4, PBS KIDS Sprout—an African-American television network, TV One—the Golf Channel and Comcast SportsNet (in a number of cities).  The company manages several video-on-demand-based programming entities as well, including Exercise TV and FEARnet. In December 2009, the company announced a deal to acquire 51 percent of NBC Universal. While the deal is subject to regulatory approval, it ties together major players in the field of TV content production and distribution.

SURVEY SAYS

Dropping names

Vault’s sources reported a good amount of satisfaction with the company’s benefits, especially the free cable and phone services.  However, a consistent theme is Comcast’s growing amount of red tape.  One says that “some policies are in place because [the company] is such a huge target for potential lawsuits, etc.”  The same employee says that the budgeting process, in particular, “is far too complicated and takes up too much of the year.”  One respondent observes that there’s “a lot of nepotism in this company,” and that “‘who you know’ really matters.”
