ABOUT THIS COMPANY:Smiling ear to ear
As you're probably well aware, Colgate-Palmolive makes toothpaste—tons of it: The company's eponymous brand perennially vies with rival Procter & Gamble's Crest for the No. 1 spot in the United States. But that's not all the company is involved in. In total, Colgate-Palmolive operates in two product segments: oral, personal and home care; and pet nutrition. The company holds the third-biggest soap brand in the world (Palmolive) and is No. 1 globally in liquid surface cleaners. Speed Stick deodorant, Softsoap liquid soap, Hill's Science Diet pet food and Ajax cleanser are some of the other popular brands in the company's garage. From these diverse, well-known brands, Colgate-Palmolive generated revenue of $15.33 billion in 2008, up from almost $13.8 billion in 2007, from sales in more than 200 nations worldwide.
