Cincinnati-based Cintas is the top supplier of work uniforms in the United States, designing, manufacturing, renting, leasing and selling these items to a wide range of clients—around 800,000 companies in all. Cintas also provides these firms with sanitation supplies, hygiene services, first-aid and safety products and services, entrance mats and promotional products. Around 31,000 people work at Cintas' 400-plus sites in the United States and Canada, including 15 manufacturing plants and seven distribution centers. Cintas has grown for 39 consecutive years and reached sales of $3.77 billion in May 2009. The business is divided into four main groups—rental uniforms and ancillary products; uniform direct sales; first aid, safety and fire protection services; and document management services.

According to sources, Cintas is not one of the best companies to work for, being listed in the Fortune 500 notwithstanding. Says one contact, a program manager, "Expect long days, stressful atmosphere, with very little satisfaction or appreciation for your hard work. The company benefits are the worst for a Fortune 500 company." The same insider adds that Cintas is one of the most "unprofessional, uneducated, and unmotivating" companies to work for.
