ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Company History

Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens & Cannada's roots go way back, but it was established in its current form in 1954, when two prestigious Mississippi firms-Butler, Snow & O'Mara and Stevens & Cannada-banded together. Since then the firm has grown from little more than half a dozen lawyers to upwards of 150. These days it's the largest firm in the Magnolia state, with lawyers stationed in offices in Jackson, Miss., Gulfport, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn., and 9 different practice groups. Nationally, it has been recognized by Chambers for its product liability practice (it also got impressive state rankings for corporate, employment, real estate and commercial litigation), and 25 of its lawyers were listed in The Best Lawyers in America.

Tips from the inside

Competitive Hiring

Butler Snow's associates consider the firm's hiring standards "highly competitive." The partners look for both academic achievement and interpersonal skills, associates say.

"I think we look to hire well-rounded, bright associates who are looking for a good place to begin a career," says a junior litigator. "Grades count, but so does personality." A midlevel products liability attorney adds that the hiring partners seek out candidates that display a "balance of hard-work, significant achievements in law school, and good personality."
