ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Superior science-based sound

One of the largest and most trusted stereo system makers in the world, Bose is best known for its phenomenally successful Wave radio, a diminutive device that provides high-quality sound.  But that's not all Bose does: the Boston-based company, founded by MIT electrical engineering professor Dr. Amar Bose, is a respected hub of auditory research and manufacturer of sound equipment, from auditorium speakers to aviation headphones.  The company has manufacturing operations in the United States, Mexico and Ireland; subsidiary operations in China and India; global networks for sales and distribution; and more than 100 retail outlets (affectionately dubbed "experience centers" by the company) throughout the world.  Its equipment can be found today in a variety of venues, including the Sistine Chapel and the Japan National Theater.

SURVEY SAYS

Gone are the good days?

An insider says Bose has a “wonderful” culture.  Teamwork is highly valued as “veryone is there to see each other succeed.”  But another source believes those “fun” days are gone, saying “as the economy got bad, the company got tough on its own employees” to a point that a “culture of fear was instilled.”  Though a business specialist says “there are always opportunities for advancement,” a salesperson disagrees, saying, “opportunities for advancement depend on your willingness to move around the country.”

Tips from the inside

You're boss at Bose

Bose lists open positions on its careers site.  With its myriad search engines and listings pages, the site is a bit confusing but thorough.  The company has a separate page for prospective engineering hires, for college students and recent grads, and for retail workers.  A comprehensive list of openings may be viewed by clicking on the site's Search for Jobs link.  There, job seekers can search jobs by schedule, job type, department, location, keyword and date.  Register on the site and then fill out the online application.
