ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

THE SCOOP

One of Texas' elite firms, Bakers Botts has deep roots in the Lone Star State—and a long history of counseling the oil industry and Republican administrations. It also fields sturdy teams in technology, complex litigation, white-collar defense and appellate advocacy.

From Agriculture to Oil

Baker Botts was Texan before Texas was a state. The firm's origins date back to 1840, when Peter Gray founded a firm in the land known then as the Republic of Texas.

Baker Botts SURVEY SAYS

OUR SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: Associates enjoy the Lone Star State prestige that comes with working at Baker Botts, but a perceived stinginess on perks has left some employees miffed. In terms of workload, associates are getting plenty of substantive legal work to keep them intrigued, but not so much that they live at the office.

Associate Life

Satisfaction
• “Great work, good people. Hard work and late hours sometimes, but [it is] rewarding.”
• “BB is a great firm with interesting and sophisticated work—when there is enough work to go around.”
• “Generally I get good assignments, my co-workers are respectful of major life events, and I am not tremendously overworked.”
• “While these days one should feel some great satisfaction in having a job at all, much less one that pays well, that feeling can be rightfully diluted by working for a company that operates as though employee satisfaction should be based primarily on the comfort of having a job at all, especially one that pays well.”
