American Electric Power (AEP) is one of America’s largest electric utilities, providing power to upwards of five million customers in 11 states. With 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, AEP is the nation’s largest generator of electricity. The company is divided into several geographic utility units: AEP Ohio; Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) in Arkansas, Louisiana and Eastern Texas; AEP Texas, serving other areas in the Lone Star State; Appalachian Power, serving West Virginia and Virginia; AEP Appalachian Power in Tennessee; Indiana Michigan Power; Kentucky Power; and Oklahoma-based Public Service Company. AEP also owns and operates the Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Mich., which produces enough energy for a city of 1.25 million people.
