The deal of a lifetime?

In January 2007, ABN AMRO sold its ABN AMRO Mortgage Group (a subsidiary of subsidiary LaSalle Bank) to Citigroup. Under the terms of the deal, Citigroup purchased approximately $9 billion in mortgage assets. ABN AMRO reported that it expected "a small book gain" after transaction costs; it also said that the bank's current strategy of focusing on midmarket commercial and consumer clients did not include national mortgage servicing portfolios.

The firm's career web site, located at www.abnamro.com, has a section chock full of career information. The firm maintains a separate web site for MBA and undergraduate applicants. In addition to "campus recruitment from leading business schools," the firm uses "headhunters" and "industry contacts" to find employees. A research director says candidates should be prepared for a number of interviews: "Basically, you have to meet every single team member of equity research and sales, as well as the senior members of different markets and sectors. However, the process can go very quickly, say, within a week, if they like you a lot."
