ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Kickin’ it old school

Adored by athletes and immortalized by Run-DMC, the perennially lowercase adidas is the second highest-selling shoe brand in the world, trailing behind market leader Nike.  The brand specializes in athletic footwear, apparel and accessories, and sponsors soccer, basketball, tennis, football and rugby teams as well as athletes all over the world, including American football teams and all of the U.S. soccer league teams.  Worn by everyone from the Beastie Boys to former U.S. President Bush to footie fanatics in developing nations, the triple-stripe sneaks are well-loved the world over.  The €10.8 billion company also owns sneaker brand Reebok, casual-shoe maker Rockport and TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

SURVEY SAYS

Easy to be happy?

Although several of our sources peg their salaries at “lower than market rates,” negative comments about adidas’ benefits and atmosphere are hard to find.  An “extremely casual work environment” in which staffers are “encouraged to wear the brand” was a key point for some; one human resources generalist even advises interviewees to do the same “to appear more attractive” as a candidate.  Obviously, adidas is a great choice for those with a “love of sport,” and one recruiter particularly enjoys the fact that there are numerous “opportunities to meet the cool athletes visiting our headquarters campus.

Tips from the inside

Score one for adidas

adidas’ corporate careers site provides separate job boards for Europe, North America and Asia, as well as one that encompasses all open positions throughout the company, in all its subsidiaries.  (There’s an additional option to find out about opportunities with the newly strengthened Operations office in Amsterdam.)  Prospective adidas employees can apply for a wide range of positions, and each job description has a link at the end that can be used to apply online.  To do so, the candidate is prompted to register, fill out personal info and upload a resume or CV and cover letter.  The site incorporates extensive information for students and graduates as well; look for the tab on the screen’s left-hand side, then select HQ/Germany, North America or United Kingdom as necessary.
