ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

I didn't know 3M made that!

An extremely diversified technology company, 3M is one of 30 companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, with facilities throughout the U.S. and in more than 60 countries. With a product line totaling more than 50,000 items, 3M has developed a global reputation for technical ingenuity and marketing innovation. Perhaps best known for consumer products such as Scotch brand tape and packing materials, ScotchGard (protecting couches and ties from red wine and pasta sauce since 1956), Scotch-Brite cleaning materials, Post-It notes and Command adhesive. 3M also makes such disparate offerings as highway traffic signs, films that prevent the nosy guy next to you from seeing your computer screen, packing and shipping materials, ceramic dental braces, Littman stethoscopes and surgical clippers that run continuously with a rechargeable battery or electrical cord. The company serves customers through six business segments -- consumer and office; electro and communications; health care; industrial and transportation (the largest unit by sales); display and graphics; and safety, security and protection services. The company reported revenue of $24.5 billion and profits of $4.1 billion in 2007, both company records.
