New York, NY, (March 31, 2011) Yesterday, Vault.com, the source for career intelligence hosted a panel at Ecological's New York City Acre location, to discuss The Responsible Business: Reimagining CSR as an Engine of Innovation, Profitability & Purpose.

The event was kick started with a keynote by Bank of America Chairman Chad Holliday who spoke about several of the Bank's sustainability initiatives. Holliday emphasized that providing clean water, food and electricity for future generations is a much bigger problem today than carbon footprinting or recycling paper. He also discussed how companies could contribute to the solution by changing their perception of these issues from socialistic, costly and irrelevant to their bottom line, to being major roadblocks in their long term survival.

Holliday?s comments were followed by a panel discussion with Vault's Senior Editor, Corporate Responsibility Aman Singh moderating. The discussion tied in to Carol Sanford's latest book, The Responsible Business. Sanford and Singh were joined by Stephen Fenichell, SVP Corporate Communications Global CSR, Bank of America Merrill Lynch; Jeffrey Hollender, Author, Consultant, Activist and Co-founder, Seventh Generation; and Sarah Murray, a contributing editor for The Financial Times.

?Responsible career decisions that align strategic growth with ethical performance are the only way we can resuscitate our economy and personal well-being,? said Singh on the motivation behind the panel. ?And today?s panel was a testament to this dire need for more proactive corporate citizenship from individual, businesses, and universities.?

The diverse?and eclectic set of panelists discussed a number of issues, including why incentives and reward-and-recognition programs don?t work; why educating the HR and recruitment team is crucial in hiring the best candidates; how companies can boost their innovation and profitability by viewing employees as co-creators rather than workers; and what executives can do to ensure their teams are constantly motivated, committed, and invested in the business' growth.

While there was a lot of friction among the panelists on the reasons, there was overall agreement that while the economic system might be broken, it wasn?t irreparable and that this discussion was only the beginning of an important and ongoing conversation.

?The most important ingredient in making the next level of change toward the responsible business is having this kind of event and conversation,? said Sanford. ?Hopefully, the conversation continues.?
