Originally created as an offshoot of Northeastern University, the Western New England College School of Law joined Western New England College in 1951. WNEC Law is the only law school in Massachusetts outside of the greater Boston area, and offers part-time and full-time programs. Students at WNEC law take a classic roster of first-year classes followed by their choice of electives. First-year courses are taught in smaller, 50-person sections to foster a collegial environment. Specializations, though not required to graduate, are available in different areas of law, such as commercial and consumer law, real estate law and educational law. Students can choose from three joint degrees: a JD/MBA, a JD/MSW with Springfield College and a JD/MRP in conjunction with the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Employment prospects for WNEC graduates are strongest in Massachusetts and Connecticut, as the school name recognition, like that of most regional schools, is waning outside of the region. The WNEC Law campus is in a residential area outside of Springfield, and students are required to find their own housing with the help of the university coordinator. The school opened new administrative offices in 2008, completing a series of expansions that began in 2006.
