Also known as King Hall after the main building it occupies, the UC Davis School of Law is the youngest of the four law schools in the University of California system. It's also the smallest, with a first, year class of around 200 students, and one of the least expensive. Academically, UC Davis Law has a strong emphasis on social justice and public interest law--King Hall, after all, is named in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. The school has a civil rights curriculum, as well as operating a Civil Rights Clinic. Students can specialize in human rights and social justice law or public interest law, and many go on to pursue careers in the public sector after graduation.

UC Davis Law also offers specializations in environmental and natural resources law, health care law and bioethics, and business law, among other subjects. In Vault's surveys, students praise the small class sizes but complain that there are too few sections, making it difficult to get into upper-level classes. The school is currently midway through a significant construction project to expand King Hall, scheduled to be finished sometime in summer 2010.
