Originally the Philadelphia Law School of the Temple College, the James E. Beasley School of Law is known for its trial advocacy program. The school houses a champion trail advocacy team that has racked up more points in national competitions than any other law school's team. Beasley Law's integrated program, combining trial advocacy with evidence and civil procedure, is a hallmark of the school, as is its LLM in trial advocacy.

The school's other academic strengths are legal writing and international law. Temple runs an LLM program in Beijing for Chinese lawyers to study American law, as well as a semester abroad program in Tokyo. JD students can also specialize in business and tax law, intellectual property law or public interest law.

Employment prospects for Beasley Law graduates are mostly centered in the Mid-Atlantic region, though the trial advocacy program carries weight further west, too. The neighborhood around Temple has a reputation for being dangerous so most students commute, though on-campus housing is available. As with most urban law schools, social activities revolve around the city at large--with all the cultural resources of Philadelphia available, student organizations play a smaller part in student life.
