The Mississippi College School of Law was founded as Jackson School of Law and merged with Mississippi College in 1975. MCOSL's academics emphasize trial and litigation, family law and business law. The school also offers a certification in Louisiana Civil Law for students who want learn the particular legal quirks of practicing in Louisiana. MCOSL's curriculum follows the traditional route of core classes, with the last two years open for electives. A joint JD/MBA is also available, and the school has clinical programs run through its child advocacy center.

Employment prospects for MCOSL graduates are strongest around central Mississippi due to the school's strong ties with Jackson area firms. The school's alumni base stretches along the Gulf Coast, with a particular concentration in Louisiana. MSOCL provides graduate housing on its main campus in Clinton, a suburb of Jackson, Miss., but many students opt instead to live in an apartment complex across from the school. School organizations are a big player in the social scene, and the students have a fairly close-knit community.
