Hi All, 

I've worked for Accenture now for about 2 years and am thinking of moving to a different company, mostly motivated by a pay raise and hopefully more focused work. One thing I've noticed is that I'm staffed on whatever projects are in my vicinity with little to no say vs working on an area that I can grow into and gain some expertise. Any advice on firms that tend to focus you on one are and build your skills? SAP is the area that I'm supposed to be specializing in (even though I've only done 2 projects so far). How is that switch from Tech Consulting to Big/Boutique strategy consulting firms? (My undergrad degree was in Bioengineering)

Does anyone have any idea what the salary range is for a Sr. Consultant (2-3 years exp.) in Performance Improvement (southwest region)?  Also, I'm currently a CPA Candidate and in top 25 MBA Program (Part-Time).

Currently with a smaller firm making 95K, assumed a paycut is in order, but was wondering how much?

Accepted to both.  Wondering which might be the next best move.  I'm 29, from CA but speak Spanish and Portuguese from Rotary Scholarships to Spain and Brazil.  Worked mainly in government and nonprofits before.  Masters from LSE, BA from UCLA.  MBA might let me come into consulting at Associate level but unsure whether i'd get that without more previous business experience (e.g. Mck BA), or how possible is it that Mck would sponser the MBA after two years...  Long term looking gates foundation, intl soc entrepreneurship, pres admin... Thanks!

Please share some information, if you have regarding the KPMG IT advisory practice. 

I don't see much discussion about KPMG in this  website as well.\n

The KPMG website indicates that it does projects in   IT Strategy , Optimization,  Logistic And Supply chain and other stuff. These are all consulting terms and sounds like "Pie in the sky" ( No offence meant) .  I am form a technology consulting company  and I am evaluating some career options. Nevertheless the answers to these questions will help every one for sure.
 I heard KPMG is planning to ramp up its consulting arm since some of the Bearing Point folks are back here.
Can someone from this practice ( IT Advisory) or someone who has worked closely with them  can share a bit of of information on :

1>Kind of projects normally handled by this team.  percentage share would be helpful. x% implementation, y% IT strategy etc

2>Kind of clients

3>Team Composition of the projects ( Does Team members from IT advisory, Tax etc work together)

4>If these are IT strategy projects, I would tend to think they are not much in number  and how does the KPMG consultants ( starting from associate to manager to senior manager ) ensure billability. WHat is the average billability required in a year.

5>Exit options from IT advisory practice. Does KPMG allow relocation from one practice line to another? For example can they relocate to  normal consulting stream if projects in pipeline dries up.

6>Risk ( layoff)  Vs Career Growth options 

Will welcome suggestions comments from all  ranks ( associates, managers , senior manager etc).

Hi, I'm a second year BBA student and I'm interested in specializing in accounting to obtain all the credits needed to get a CA designation after graudation. I see fourth, third and even second year business students landing summer internships which later turn into full-time jobs upon graduation at accounting firms. It's not uncommon to see that, yet it's definitely only a lucky few who are chosen.Competition is fierce at business schools, so how do I make myself stand out among others given that a recruiter meets several hundred students and extends only a few interviews? 

Tips or tricks? Any idea would be appreicated, much thanks in advance!!

I am writing my short term/long term goals essay for B-School, and I am trying to figure out if my intended career progression makes sense.  Does tech strategy consulting in the way I describe below even exist?  Also what would be my title and dept. in the company I would work for?

In the long term, I am interested in working for a large company, like a honeywell or a GE, in their corporate strategy/M&A (diff companies might call this dept diff things). I would like to be finding new technology start-ups and new small companies or even just engineers who have developed amazing new technology and inventions particularly in the Security and Public Safety Technology fields. (I currently work for a security firm doing business development)

I want to be able to throw the resources of the large company behind these "little guys" and help bring their amazing innovations to market. Getting their ideas out there in the market is more important to me than whether they develop into their own company, or their technology gets enveloped into the product line of the larger firm.

I could also see how, after developing some expertise in this area, that this would be valuable to VC firms in this sector.

In the short term, in order to accomplish this, I think the best thing for me to do would be some type of tech strategy consulting. booz allen, IBM, accenture etc. I know diff consulting firms have different areas of expertise, but that's all I can really think of that would lead me to my long term goal. any thoughts?
