SURVEY SAYS

They're all BFFs

Expect to step into a "very professional culture" where "everyone is really friendly and helpful." An insider notes that while MPS has "a lot of terrific people" and "the friends you make are some of the best," there opportunities within the firm "long-term growth." Another says the firm is "very welcoming" and seeks to develop employees with the goal of "enhancing their careers."

MP&S has an "entrepreneurial" culture, one where "partners are given a lot of flexibility to run their own practice areas." Employees "go out together about once a week" but "there are a lot of cliques." Some respondents call the firm "somewhat friendly," though others call it "unfriendly," saying you should expect some "monkey work." Even so, most agree MP&S is "a rapidly growing firm," with "smart partners who have many years of experience."

A contact says weekend hours worked in the office are done "by choice" because of a personal goal as a new hire of "trying to develop more business." Other insiders say the hours are "not bad during tax season." "There are some days that you will leave around 10 p.m., but other than that, most days during tax season you're leaving between 7 and 8:30 p.m." Another comments that "hours vary depending on engagements in progress." Overall, you'll work an average of "40 to 50 hours per week" throughout the year, and "most weekend work is concentrated within the traditional busy season." Managers also get high marks from subordinates, with one commenting that he maintains an "excellent professional relationship" with employees. When you are in the office, the dress code is "business casual," which "some people take it to an extreme and almost dress casual." As for diversity, "minority recruitment seems fine at the moment," but insiders say there could be "more flex-time for new moms," "more flexible schedules for women" and "opportunities for less than full-time positions," to accommodate working mothers.

In order to land a job at MP&S, sources say “the firm needs to see potential in you, a desire to learn and an appetite for challenging work.”  Though the firm “recruits directly from colleges,” that’s not the only route in: “resumes are always welcome and are considered if relevant opportunities are available.”
