| Full-time M.D and Ph.D. Program |
The combined MD/PhD program is a highly competitive NIH sponsored
program in select medical schools around the country. Each program
admits about 8 students every year. A total of about 200 students
enter the program around the country each year. Strong biomedical
research and academic skills are required. Results from the Medical
College Admission Test (MCAT) have to be submitted and students are
usually required to have 30 or more on the exam. Admissions occur
through the American Medical Colleges Application Service (AMCAS),
although a separate application is usually required for the MD/PhD
Program. Applications should be in during August of the year before
admission. Interviews occur from November until February and include
both the medical and graduate school interviews. The program pays for
both the medical and graduate school portions of your education. The
only requirements are to maintain a B average and not to engage in any
work outside the university. Most programs are more research than
medically oriented so it helps if you have a thorough knowledge of the
field you want to pursue for your graduate education (ie. neuroscience,
biochemistry, etc.).
