All the top Wall Street firms recruit on campus (most recruit only for
investment banking but some also recruit for sales & trading). This past year,
Citigroup, CSFB, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, UBS, JP Morgan,
Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Barclays Capital, SG Cowen, and a few boutiques
were on campus. Each bank hired two summer interns on average. Other big
corporate players in finance such as Amex and GE Capital were also on campus.
Consulting firms are not as visible in on-campus recruiting. The Career
Development Office is very aggressive in finding leads for students and in
getting Yale alumni to recruit as many Yalies as possible. Most Wall Street firms
love the Yale pedigree and the team-oriented students, but I have heard
complaints from students not looking to go into finance that not enough
non-banking firms are brought on campus. This may be due to the fact that Yale
has such a small class size (240 students) that most non-banking firms do not see
a campus visit as efficient. Besides, although famous for finance, Yale is not
exactly renowned for its strength in marketing or other non-finance fields.
