Try to distinguish yourself from the pack. If you're in investment
banking, try to emphasize your interest in non-profits or social
causes. If you're the non-profit type, emphasize your interest in
learning the hard business skills. If asked for an interview, that is a
sign of interest, so definitely go, even if you have to fly across the
country on your own dime. If you don't interview, it's a sign of
disinterest on your part and will probably harm your chances. A good
book to get is "How to Get into the Top Business Schools" by Richard
Montauk. I followed that to a "T" and got in. Best advice period.
