Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA program |
If I only knew then what I know now... My advice to you is not to panic
concerning admission to the Olin School of Business. There are roughly
between 1,000 and 1,500 applications a year submitted to the school. The
challenge for you will be to stand out in a pool of applicants that
size. If you're from the US, especially one of the coasts, there is more
good news... Olin receives 2/3 of its applications from overseas but can
only allocate 1/3 of the places to foreign students without raising a
red flag in the various MBA guides and with corporate recruiters. Thus,
approximately 35% of the applicants are competing for 65% of the seats.
Do the math! In other words, if you are American, you are competing with
300 to 500 other people. If you worked abroad, have an interesting cv or
went to a good college and got good grades, you will stand out in that
reduced pool!
The bad news is that if you are foreign- especially Indian or Chinese-
you may have more trouble getting into Olin. Applicants from the Middle
East, Europe and Africa should not be discouraged from applying,
however. So few applications come in from those regions that you are
almost sure to be admitted. Just be aware that Olin is a rather
provincial place. Students are not as open minded about places like
Africa and the Middle East as they would be on the coasts. I am speaking
from experience!!
