The career office has revamped themselves over the past two years. The office
is making tremendous strides in being more customer (student) focused and are
very responsive to their needs. Recruiting has fallen off, but most programs
have seen this trend as well. The office addressed this weakness in the economy
by making connections with lower profile companies who have expressed a need for
MBA talent, thus making the outreach to the corporate community an extended and
multi-pronged one.
Internships are relatively easy for Owen students to acquire with over 90% of
the class landing internships for the past 2 years despite the sputtering
economy. Full-time job offers are much more difficult to come by for second
years as they are finding many of the companies that hired them as interns do not
have the budget for full-time hires.
Vanderbilt students find themselves within the pack for jobs with other top
programs. Still, companies have core schools with personal alumni ties that
often snub Vanderbilt students in preference for their own alma-mater. However,
the quality of talent is very similar if not better due to Vandy's academic MOD
versus Semester system.
