Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA program |
The admissions process is rolling - meaning that there is no set
deadline and therewfore no set time that you will hear back. It is an
online application, and starting new this year, interviews are
required. The committee looks at all apsects of the application and
ranks them approximately equally. However, if a person has a low
undergraduate GPA, it can typically be "made up for" with a good GMAT
score. The average GMAT in recent years has been around 670 and the
average GPA is about a 3.4. As a former member of the admissions
committee I valued the interview a bit more highly in certain cases,
owing to the fact that it was either a current student or alum who ran
it. I took stock in what they would say because they would know the
type of person that would be a good fit for the school. The essays are
important too. A truly unique answer really sticks out in a sea of
people who are answering the questions in about the same way as
everyone else. The applicant should never be too cocky or preachy nor
bring religion into the picture. That was the fastest way to get a
decline from me - regardless of how great their GMAT or GPA. In the
end, the goal of the admissions process is to admit students who work
well with others and who fit well with the cooperative culture of the
program. The program is ver yselective and getting more so every
year. It is important to have your story air tight, meaning know where
you've been, where you want to go, and why a McCombs MBA is going to
get you there.
