Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-Time MBA Program |
Although I have been away from the program for a while (Class of 1996),
the admissions process is quite competitive. The school looks for a
mature student (ie 5-6 years experience) with some substantive life
experiences that can add value and diversity to the class. Obviously
from a selectivity perspective, competition is keen as evidenced by the
average GPA and GMATs of each incoming class. In terms of essays, try to
be focused and offer a good explanation of how you would contribute to
the class at large, both in terms of your career goals and in terms of
your life goals. Remember: one of the hallmarks of the program is its
reputation for entrepreneurship, and the school likes people that
think "outside the box", or are catalysts for change. Several years ago
the Admissions Office was not proactive regarding interviews, but now
they seem to be using them more actively as part of the admissions
process. If you can get down to Austin or alternatively meet with an
alumnus/a locally where you are, it cannot hurt your chances. Plus it
helps you in your decision making process yourself.
