UT is a pleasant place for graduate students. Big campus in a quiet
town. The university has both on-campus and off-campus housing. The
graduate students usually live in of the four off-campus apartment
complexes. UT housing department is one of the best housing departments
among all the American universities. They put a lot of emphasis on the
safety of residents, community building, activity and events planning.
For example, one of the closest apartment complex Laurel is about only 3-
5 minutes walk to the center of campus. It has 14 floors and both one
bedroom and two bedroom apartments. The apartments are divided into
furnished and unfurnished. The monthly rent is very reasonable, probably
the cheapest considering the quality of the room and facilities. Inside
each complex, there are pool, weighrooms, recreation room and computer
lab.
On campus, there are several cafeterias where students can go eat.
Students can also go on the strip to any fast food or regular
restaurants. The univerisity just finished building a new gym. It is
four stories high and very nice.
Knoxville is a comparatively quiet and low crime city. students are very
safe being on campus. University also provides transportations for
students who don't have cars and stay late on campus.
Overall, UT is a very nice place to stay.
