| Full Time MBA/Full Time PhD |
The selectivity of the Grad Business school is fairly rigorous as it is
one of the top schools in the UK for the MBA (more proof is needed for
your qualifications for the PhD so I'll focus on the MBA for this
survey). The admission staff are very helpful and willing to put you in
touch with academics as you request, especially if you are from North
America. They have a hugely diverse student body (I alone had 50+
nations represented in my class) with backgrounds ranging from Tax
Deputy of Brazil to Ambassadors to engineers; however, everyone is
subjected to the same treatment when it comes to the admissions
process. References are required, as well as TOFEL examinations results
for non-English native speakers. The GMAT was not a prerequisitie when
I had applied in 1997 (although I took it for considerations at other
universities) but I believe it is now a requirement. If an applicant is
borderline, the admission staff will organize an interview session.
Essays covered questions such as "Describe a business situation in which
your ethics and values were tested" to "What do you think that you can
offer your fellow students if accepted?" I thought that essay questions
were thought provoking but reasonable. I would suggest that you be
honest but being expressive (maybe to the point of entertaining?) helps
them remember you as they have to deal with large numbers of applicants.
