We definitely have the facilities and people to help you with your job search.
We have counselors who are assigned to you based upon your area of interest.
They will help to point you in the right direction and we have countless
workshops on interviewing, preparation, focusing your job search, writing cover
letters/resumes, even how to dress for interviews. Mock interviews are
available
whenever and as many times as you want. Our Career Management Center (CMC) has
really stepped up this year and made quite a few changes. Last year's class did
pretty well and my class appears to be doing even better.
The CMC also goes out and networks with different companies to try and get more
contacts for the school. And they will get you in contact with alumni at
different companies.
However, because the school is smaller, lesser known and not near a major city,
we do not have many of the exclusive arrangements with certain companies to hire
only Simon MBAs. Many of the local companies do come here first (Bausch & Lomb,
Xerox, Kodak, Paychex) but beyond that I am not aware of any specific
arrangements. So the downside is that the majority of the legwork is up to you.
While the CMC certainly acts as an aid, it is up to you to make it happen.
Throughout the year we have corporate presentations and plenty of on-campus
interviewing. In the fall most of the companies that come are investment
banking
and corporate finance related. In the winter and spring the focus is more on
consulting, marketing and operations management. Our close proximity to New
York
City makes interviewing a lot easier and fairly inexpensive. We do not have
classes on Fridays so many people leave Thursday evening for Friday interviews.
