Admission & Application Survey |
| Full-time MBA |
Once you have applied and made it through the initial cut, they will
invite you for an interview (on or off campus or via telephone). The
interview focuses on your interests and making certain you have a clear
reason for wanting to get your MBA. You don't necessarily have to know
exactly what you want to do, but you have to know why you are
applying. Also, there is discussion about how well your past
experiences (work/life/school) has prepared for the courses as far as
being a valuable contributor as well as the rigor. My understanding is
that Simon interviews everyone it admits.
The essay questions on the application are the standard ones that most
business schools ask. However there is an optional essay that allows
you to identify your unique experience and expected contribution to the
Simon School and to your class. Here is where you can really
differentiate yourself and you should take the opportunity to do so.
I'm not certain on the numbers, but I think Simon admits about 25% of
its applicants. Also, the essays are a very important selection tool
so use them wisely. You do not necessarily need a stellar GPA or GMAT,
but one or the other has to be good. So if your GPA is not great, you
need a good GMAT score and vice versa. And you need to be able to
explain any low numbers. You can do that in the optional essay.
